Knitting - A Family Affair

My baby girl wanted to knit while I was working on her sweater, so I gave her some double pointed needles and scrap yarn, and she went to town on my lap.

Funky Fair Isle Hat

This hat was so much fun to make! It went really quickly too.

I was commissioned by a friend to make this hat for her teenage daughter, and I'm so glad she chose it.

It was my first attempt at fair isle, and double decreases, so I got lots of good practice. I am really pleased with how it turned out, and hope her daughter likes it!

Lace Skullcap

Knit on US size 3 DPNs and circular.

My first attempt at lace. Not as hard as I thought it'd be, as long as I paid really close attention to what I was doing. If I lost count it got a little hairy, but other than that not too bad.

My sister gave me a gift certificate to our local yarn store for Christmas, on the condition that I make something for myself and not someone else. I kept my promise!

This yard was simply heavenly. It is 100% Merino, fingering weight, and is hand-dyed. It's local, too! Even better! Not only do I support our local store instead of a big box, but got to chip in for a local artisan as well. Not too shabby!

French Market Bag

I LOVE this bag, and most people who see it seem to feel the same way. It is such a versatile purse. Big enough to actually be a bag you take to the market with you, but still small enough to be a really functional daily purse. OR, throw a couple diapers and a toy or two in it, and you've got a great toddler bag when the diaper bag becomes too much to handle.

Really really love this bag, and it was a great learning experience as well.

Welcome

Welcome to Lickety Split Knits!

My sister gave me the gift of knitting for my birthday in October (via Blue Sky Alpaca yarn and gorgeous bamboo needles) and since then I've kind of become addicted. I want to learn everything, know how to do everything, and teach myself everything.

I've used the free videos at knittinghelp.com to learn different methods and techniques, and they have been immensely helpful.

I've also been lucky enough to have friends commission me to make things for them, and have been able to help my family out and feed my addiction at the same time! Every new project is an experience to learn.

I've only been knitting for about three months, but am in love. I've made a bib, a poncho, four hats and a purse so far. I just cast on a pair of baby cargo pants, and have washcloths, pot handle covers, knitted food and a few amazing purses on the horizon.

If you see anything that you simply can't live without, just e-mail me at barkersgoods@gmail.com and we'll talk turkey.
